Explore Adelaide’s Small Bar Scene

Before retiring to one of Adelaide’s many hotels, indulge in Adelaide’s small bar scene in laneways and side streets. Here, hip little bars serve boutique wines, international liquors, and voluminous cocktails with décor changing from Americana and Spanish to vintage, quirky, and distinguished.

Botanic Bar

Plush armchairs line this east-end bar on East Terrace, which is decorated in a quirky but tasteful design. Head here for a cocktail or two after dinner on Rundle Street.

Cantina Sociale

This wine bar offers customers with authentic, one-off wines that are not available in any stores, wine lists or bars. Cantina Sociale, located on Sturt Street, is a place for wine lovers to socialise while enjoying truly unique wines poured straight from the barrel.

Clever Little Tailor

Clever Little Tailor is an intimate bar found on Peel Street with an old school feel, matched with an impressive beverage list. Elements of the original vintage store have been kept, including the exposed beams which you’ll be swinging off after a couple of cocktails on a Friday night.

Kaffana

With the small bar scene, so too has come an array of European flavours, with Kaffana offering a Serbian-style small bar experience on Peel Street. Kaffana serves 27 varieties of the traditional Serbian plum brandy slivovitz and six types of Serbian beer.

Proof

One of the most recent arrivals to Adelaide’s small bar scene, Proof is tucked down Anster Lane, off Waymouth Street, and offers an intimate setting both upstairs and downstairs. There’s also an upstairs patio, large wine list and tasty bar snacks plus toasted sandwiches!

Udaberri

With exposed beams, dim lighting and a pintxos menu that will rival that of any small bar in San Sebastien, Udaberri in Leigh Street guarantees a good night out. As the first small bar to open in Adelaide, Udaberri set the scene for the transformation of the city’s nightlife. A large selection of local and imported wines, beers and spirits are on the menu, as well as a cocktail list including their famous Espresso Martini.
